Recovery of the landscape

              If the holiday is for us the primary route from the bustle of urban life, then creating a ''different'' space away from the overcrowded daily routine, an essential lifestyle.

             The cottage is the site contained the dreams and values lost in the urban landscape and are therefore becoming increasingly important. Unfortunately, the rapid non-organized tourist development in Greece and reckless violation of the natural environment, tend to carry the problems of the city to the countryside with similar effects.

            The need to create a new proposal regarding the cottage, it was for me the central focus of the study and design of dwellings in Marmari Evia, one that is the main objective of the owner of the area and the company of E. Kanterakis.

The main features of the proposal are:

           a. Taking into account the unique natural beauty of the landscape with excellent views of sea, land was treated as a whole, although it consists of four acres land in non-project construction. The buildings are placed so as to fit perfectly into the environment and not disturb the harmony of stone blocks and natural terrain.

           b. Each house has a very distinct form, to avoid the standardization and repetition of faces, making the landscape monotonous and ugly. The common morphological data used are intended to illustrate the individual dwellings in a unified whole, quite distinct and differentiated properties.

          c. Special attention is given to using alternative energy (solar, geothermal, etc.) so as to cover a large extent the operating needs of the home as a top priority for effective environmental respect and protection.

          d. The water is very important morphological and unifying element in all the houses and the whole area. First up tanks collect rainwater, so that there is sufficient for water, the other is chlorine-free swimming pools and water used when emptied. Finally an attempt to create water routes across the area to collect and reuse. The presence of water, I think it is extremely important for both the local microclimate, and the overall image of the area. The planting will be very careful with plants from the Greek area (olives, citrus, bay Apollo Agrokipio small and ornamentals such as bougainvillea, hibiscus and others)

        e. Morphology was necessary to use the stone, creating geometric volumes (a reminder of the local architecture) associated with lighter structures through translucent route. Thus enable the symbolic separation of the functions of residence according to season, light and characteristics of users. Even a better utilization of space in the game balance closed - rural, light - dark, hot - cool, small - large, contrasting area in need of man to finish in the environment.

          All these elements are intended to produce housing with special behavior. Sustainability in the architectural field is the ability to redefine its relationship with nature and its inherent values. It is the depiction of historical memory and the functional integration of the present. Because environmental problems are everyone's business and creative debate the way forward. p>
